While cans appear to be all the rage in the craft brewing industry, there are still plenty of companies choosing glass as its packaging of choice. For instance, Drinks Americas, the U.S. broker for Mexican beers currently present in more than 34 states, promotes the usage of glass for its Mexican Day of the Dead craft beer bottles. The company’s bottle was recently highlighted in the Glass Packaging Institute (GPI) newsletter. GPI also encouraged the company to submit an entry for its 2014 Clear Choice Awards honoring consumer product goods (CPG) manufacturers who expand the frontiers of glass packaging design. On behalf of glass container manufacturers, GPI promotes glass as the optimal packaging choice, advances environmental and recycling policies, advocates industry standards, and educates packaging professionals. In its recent issue, it highlighted the company’s move to bring the entire state of Georgia the first and only Mexican craft beer, Day of the Dead, through its distribution agreement with Prime Wine & Spirits of Georgia. The beer labels look to celebrate the tradition of the Aztecs who honored the unique character of the deceased individuals in annual celebration. The liquid was developed by the brewery management team and fine-tuned by the head brewmaster at Cerveceria Mexicana, the brewery that owns and produces this beer, according to the company. Cerveceria Mexicana is the third largest brewery in Mexico located in Tecate, Mexico. Best known for its flagship brand Mexicali, the brewery produces more forty labels of beer. Cerveceria Mexicana has capacity to brew over 100,000 barrels per year and is expanding rapidly.
