Corning: More Money For Taiwan Lcd Plant

The board of Corning Inc have approved an extra $326M for its LCD glass factory in Taiwan in order to meet demand for flat-screen monitors and TVs. The funding is part of Corning's $1BN capital spend for 2004. Corning said on 7 October, that its board approved the investment for the second phase of a plant under construction in the Central Taiwan Science Park in Taichung. The facility will make a new generation of glass to meet anticipated demand for desktop monitors and the emerging LCD TV market. Initial manufacturing from the second phase is expected to begin in 2005, with production continuing to come on line in 2006.
