Corning Inc announced 6 April that the Massachusetts Inst of Technology (MIT) would be using the Corning Advanced-Flow glass reactor in its chemical engineering research programme. Corning's reactor has the ability to continuously & efficiently stream chemical reactants together, not mix them in batches, enabling breakthroughs in manufacturing. "We believe continuous manufacturing of chemicals & pharmaceuticals is an important trend for the advancement of the chemical processing industry. Continuous manufacturing provides significantly more efficient manufacturing & higher purity products, both critical benefits. Additionally, these types of reactors enable new chemical pathways that in the past people could only dream about accomplishing in a production environment," said Prof Klavs Jensen, chair of the MIT Department of Chemical Engineering.
