Indian firm Champagne Indage hopes to establish a major presence in the UK wine sector after it bought Corby Bottlers out of administration, safeguarding 120 jobs. Northamptonshire-based Corby, a wine bottler & wholesaler, & sister company Darlington wines, had continued to trade after they were placed in administration with KPMG in March. Champagne Indage MD said the deal would give the group a "large-scale" route into the UK market Both companies have a combined turnover of around £25m. Corby Bottlers was formed 20y ago as a contract filler for bag-in-box wines for supermarkets. It later added bottling lines & has been a supplier to major retailers such as Sainsbury's. Champagne Indage is part of the Indage Group, created in 1982 to sell wines to the Indian market. The new company will be called Indage (UK) & will continue to be run by MD John Steel.
