Consumers Prefer Beer In Bottles

Consumers abroad prefer bottled German beer to the canned variety. The Federal Statistics Office in Wiesbaden, Germany has announced that approximately 331m litres of bottled beer were exported last year, which was 85m litres more than the amount exported in cans. By far the biggest importer of beer in glass containers in 1999 was the USA (120m litres), ahead of Italy (60m litres), the UK (55m litres), France (21m litres), and Belgium (12m litres). German beer in cans was purchased mainly by France (65m litres) followed by Spain (52m litres), the UK (27m litres), Italy (21m litres), Switzerland (10m litres) and the USA (7.2m litres).
