The European Commission announced, on 24 January 2005, that 25 national laws plus 2 EU Directives concerning weight indications on pre-packed products, including food, would be reviewed as recommended by the Simpler Legislation for the Internal Market (SLIM). The public consultation, designed to obtain views from producers and users, includes plans for simplifying current legislation and aligning it with the international standards formulated by the Organisation Internationale de Métrologie Légale (OIML).
