The operation involved in producing flat glass panels to the customers requirements are indicated and some of the manual processes used for plate glass briefly described. The much increased speed of Float glass manufacture made automation of these processes essential. Methods used for automatic inspection, cutting, rejection of defects and handling are described. The computer control needed for these modern systems is outlined.
