Coca-Cola Reduces Weight Of Iconic Bottles

Coca-Cola Enterprises (CCE) is reducing the weight of its iconic 330ml glass bottle by 20%. CCE said the move will lead to savings of over 3,5000/t glass raw material & around 2,2000/t of CO2/pa. Known as the "Ultra" design, all new glass bottles of 330ml Coca-Cola brands will be made in the new specification. The new bottle is said to weigh 20% less, having been reduced from 263g to 210g & is 0.1mm wider & around 13mm shorter than the original. CCE said the lightweight Ultra bottles have been developed using design software that helps determine the stress points & optimum weight of a glass bottle. G Snowdon, supply chain project manager for CCE said: "Advances in technology have allowed us to improve upon the famous design, preserving its iconic shape while making it lighter & enabling significant reductions in raw material used & CO2 levels emitted in production. Not only that, but there is no compromise on quality so the new bottle, while being lighter, will be just as strong - if not stronger - than the original."
