Coating Improves Glass Surface

Daedalian Glass, based in Stalmine, Lancs., has become the first company in the North West of England to produce "non-stick" glass. The company has a licence to coat glass using Clear Shield, preventing it from discolouring due to weathering and ageing. Untreated glass surfaces can degrade as the complex inorganic composition of glass makes it hydrophillic. It attracts and holds a molecular layer of moisture which traps dust and dirt. The Clear Sheild coating modifies the surface, making water, grease and dirt run off. Clear Shield was originally devised to reduce cleaning costs, being applied to airport control towers, railway stations, terminals and hotels. It is now recognized that the coating can be found useful in other areas such as sandblasting, stained glass, leaded lights & fused glass for breweries, chruches & private commissions.
