Closures On Their Mettle

Bottle closure is undergoing a major rethink among wine producers worldwide. Cork still dominates the market, accounting for over 90% of global wine stoppers. Synthetics make up 7% and screwcaps a mere 2%. However, many are looking to change this situation. There are some open questions about the role of cork in the ageing of wine but that is a concern for only a small sector of the market, as this paper reports.
