TV and mobile phone maker TCL is setting up a new assembly line in Huizhou, Guangdong province as part of the cost cutting and technology measures it undertook to halt sliding overseas sales, said Li Dongsheng, chairman/CEO in an exclusive interview with China Daily. The 800M/Yuan assembly line was expected to begin operations in September, and along with the 1.2BN/Yuan module facility set up in 2008, help the company make sizeable inroads in the liquid crystal display market, Li said. The new manufacturing line will also be the country's first integrated production line, with production capacity of 8M display modules and 5M TV units. Over the next few years, the company plans to increase capacity to 10M modules and 10M TV units.
