Countries such as New Zealand and Australia are leading a worldwide trend to bottling wines in screw cap bottles instead of ones that use traditional cork stoppers. According to wine industry experts, screw caps provide better conditions for conservation, avoid air getting into the bottle and allow uniform ageing of the wine. According to figures for the sector, currently 20% of would production goes into screw cap bottles. "In 2020, we began using screw caps because of client demand. This year we hope that 80% of our output, close to 400,00 cases, will use this system." said Cecilia Prat, development manager for Vina Conosur, adding that Cristalieras Chile, the main supplier of bottles, has already produced several models with the required screw neck and is responding rapidly to local demand.
