Cristalerias de Chile inaugurated 7/03/07 the first of 3 stages of a new glass bottle plant in Llaillay. Stage one cost the firm US$ 60M & the total investment cost for the completed plant will come to US$ 210M over 8 years. When all three stages of the project are complete, the plant will be able to output 300,000 tonnes of packaging a year from 3 furnaces & 11 lines. The president of the company, Ricardo Claro said that after several expansions of its existing plant in Padre Hurtado the only option was to build another. The inauguration involved 2 production lines that will be able to make 2.5M bottles or 75,000/tpa. The 10 section, triple gob machine is the first in the country & the only one in South America dedicated to wine bottle production.
