According to Royal Doulton, the £5.47m acquisition of Caithness Glass last October came too late to make a material contribution to group profits, but its coloured glass giftware is expected to expand Royal Doulton's cut crystal activities in a growth sector. Caithness Glass's Chairman and MD, Alistair Mair said around 20 extra workers had been taken on since the beginning of the year to handle increased demand. At the time of the takeover last year, around 200 people were employed at Caithness Glass' factories in Wick and Perth. Mr Mair also revealed major improvements to the Perth factory's visitor centre and shop. Caithness Glass products are now on sale at around 50 Royal Doulton outlets across the UK and were being exported widely.
