Cairo-Based Company To Establish Second Float Glass Line

Egypt Float Glass Co has revealed that discussions are underway at Board level to establish a second float glass line at the company's existing manufacturing facility. According to a company spokesman, EFG's technical department is preparing the bidding documents as part of the initial expansion process and if the idea is accepted then the company will expect to expend a total of US$70-75m on the new line. The factory, which is located in 10th Ramadan City, an industrial new town some 60km north east of Cairo, started production in mid-1998. Presently, the nominal "pull" from the furnace is around 400 tonnes/day. Once completed, the second line will increase capacity at the plant by 600 tonnes/day.
