Burgess Pigment Co., (Sandersville, Georgia) has appointed Omya UK as its sole distributor in the UK and Republic of Ireland markets effective 1 October 2004. Omya UK has assumed responsibility for sales of Burgess' extensive range of functional, calcined and hydrous kaolins into non-paper applications. Prior to this, Burgess products were handled by Cornwall kaolin producer Goonvean Ltd., however, Burgess were keen to stress that the decision was based on overall EU efficiencies, rather than any disagreement or service problems with Goonvean. The main reasoning behind the the decision was that Omya AG already represents Burgess in many countries including Germany, Spain, Italy and France as well as in Central and S America. "Its a strategic long term decision and part of an effort to have more of a pan-European focus," said Tom Adrien, of Burgess.
