Bulgaria's Environment Minister, Nona Karadzhove, has broken the ground for the construction of a new glass recycling plant just outside Sofia, with an annual capacity of 50,000/t bottles. Ecopack, a joint stock company formed in 2004 by 18 Bulgarian and international firms, will reportedly invest BGL 3.8M in the glass recycling facility. The plant will process empty bottles from special containers for recycling around the country, from bottling companies, and from commercial units such as restaurants. Bulgaria's current existing system for separation and recycling of household waste features 22,000 containers in 1010 municipalities with more than 3M people.
