Allied Glass has gone further down the quality route & heavily invested in the production of white flint glass, which it hopes will help it reach into the luxury product market. "Glass already has premium connotations & is adopted by a lot of brands looking to present the best of themselves," says product innovation manager Chris Todd. "We want to take it a few steps further for all high-value products that need high-value packaging." Allied is the UK's 4th largest container glass manufacturer, with 2 production facilities in Yorkshire that produce some 13M bottles a week. It serves a range of food & drink firms, & counts Diageo, Pernod Ricard, Whyte & Mackay & HP Foods among its customers. Despite the recession, Allied's business has grown in the past 2 years & says its investment in product development means it is well positioned to take advantage of the recovery.
