More than 100 workers at Australian glassmaker Viridian's Victorian and NSW plants are facing redundancies within the year. Staff at the Clayton facility were also informed by managers of redundancies. In a letter to the union, Viridian blamed "declining house construction," the high Australian dollar and increased manufacturing costs for restructuring, which had caused the redundancies. Frank Vari, national vice-president for the CFMEU's Furnishings and Forestry Products Division, representing the affected workers, said they did not accept the company's reasons.
