Standard C 1401, Guide for Structural Sealant Glazing, has recently been completed by Subcommittee C24.35 on Structural Sealants, part of standards writing Committee C-24 on Building Seals and Sealants of ASTM. Structural sealant glazing (SSG) adheres glass to metal frames without mechanical fasteners. The new guide describes evaluation, design, installation and maintenance of a structural sealant glazing system and many of its various components. It provides information for system performance criteria, such as applied loads, movements to be accommodated, and tolerances to be considered; system and component design considerations including weatherproofing concepts, metal framing systems and finishes, glass types and characteristics, structural and weather seal sealant properties, and various accessory glazing materials.
