ESGA, the European Special Glass Association, has been created by four glass companies - Corning, Philips, Samsung-Corning and Schott. Membership is open to other European producers active in this sector. ESGA will actively defend the specific interests of the specialty glass industry on a European level, with environmental trade policy related aspects in particular. Since its creation, it has been involved in the IPPC; BAT; it has become active against the Danish ban on lead and issued position regarding the EC Directive on electrical and electronic waste; it has also been involved with recycling issues. In the area of trade policy, ESGA's priorities are the discussions on tariff and non-tarrif barriers in the framework of the next WTO Round and the Information Technology Agreement.
