Japan's major glass manufacturer Asahi Glass will have eliminated one sheet glass furnace from its Keihin factory in Yokohama by May this year, a press report said, as it seeks to restructure quickly and limit production. The move will drop its domestic capacity by an estimated 5%. In a separate measure, Asahi will also quit production of industrial flat reinforced glass and partially withdraw from its business in magnesium hydroxide for fertilizers and chemicals. Other businesses targeted for withdrawal included bonded bricks for steelmaking.
