Approval Ratings For Glass Containers Up In Spain

According to a study by the Perfiles Inst, 92.2% of Spanish consumers rated glass packaging as the most convenient (10% rise on 2002). In a Dec/03 press release, the Spanish Glass Container Centre said 57.8% of consumers rated composite materials as most convenient, while the figure for metal was 52.2%, and for plastic 50%. One the question of how packaging materials are perceived, consumers rated glass 8.6 out of a maximum 9, metal 4.8 and plastic 4.7. The score for glass is up one point from 8.6 in 2002, while all other materials were down from the previous year. The release noted that, according to the study, 49.9% of survey respondents said they paid "a lot or quite a lot" of attention to packaging materials, while 14.7% usually pay some attention and 35% pay little or none. 47% of consumers said that products packaged in glass are of higher quality.
