Application Shortfall For Packaging Waste Scheme

According to the UK's Environment Agency, around 3200 of an estimated 4500 businesses have met the end of August deadline for registration under the Packaging Waste Regulations. Around 800 businesses have applied for individual registration with the Environment Agency, while around 100 have applied to join the Scottish Environment protection Agency. The other 2300 companies are registered with one of the six existing compliance schemes. However, there is a shortfall between the estimated number of businesses obliged to register and the number of applications acutally received. Companies which are subject to the Packaging Waste Regulations and which fail to register can face prosecution. (whole item)
