Application Of Batch Blanket Monitoring System In Glass Furnaces

A batch monitoring system that continuously analyses batch blanket patterns in industrial glass tanks has been tested by TNO Glass Group in co-operation with Software & Technologie Glas GmbH Cottbus (STG). The batch blanket patterns are observed by using the images of a video camera in the furnace and image processing software. The software recognises the batch blanket floating on the melt and calculates characteristic batch parameters that describe the pattern, like the length of the batch, the symmetry, the part of the melt surface covered by the batch, etc. New batch parameters can be included, depending on the specific furnace.
