Altajir Glass Expands

Altair Glass of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, plans to double its production to make it the biggest maker of glass bottles and jars in its region. The company is already spending 100M UAE Dirhams on a third production line to increase daily output from 1.5M bottles to 2.18M and melting capacity to 540 tonnes/day. Its new line will be commissioned in July and will allow the firm to increase its range of products to cover 200ml-2 litre capacities. In the second phase of its plan Altajir Glass will spend another 450M UAE Dirhams to take its production capacity to 4M bottles. The firm uses Owens-Illinois machinery, and has also invested in automated inspection equipment to detect and eliminate flaws in moulds and in production. Advance orders for its bottles guarantee five years of production, including long-term commitments from global cola producers.
