All Glass Goes Green

A project named Glass Goes Green has begun in W Oxfordshire. It is measuring the amount of waste glass produced by licensed hospitality outlets as part of its efforts to reduce the amount of glass being sent to landfill. The waste picked up from the various bars, hotels and restaurants will be taken to a local transfer station to be sorted and weighed. The work is being carried out by staff from the Centre for Environmental Studies in the Hospitality Industry at Oxford Brookes University, who will record the origins of the glass by type of drink, such as lager, orange juice or alcopops. The information will be used to run a trial glass collection service from licensed premises in the area due to begin in Spring 2003.
