Airport Chandelier Saved

Mott MacDonald, the engineering management and development consultancy has been assisting on a project to install a historic glass chandelier at The World of Glass in St.Helens Merseyside, UK. The chandelier, which is made up, of hundreds of glass 'droplets' - some over one metre long, was part of a set that hung in the departure lounge of Manchester's Ringway Airport during the 1960's. A subsequent refurbishment of the airport meant that the chandeliers were removed and stored under tarpaulin covers on the airport apron, until a restoration project was initiated by The World of Glass. Each of the glass droplets was collected and taken to a specialist company for cleaning, before being reassembled to form the central exhibit at The World of Glass, ready for the public display in December 2009.
