Air Cushion Packaging

In order to reduce the risk of breakage during the transport of glass or other items, two new air-cushion packaging systems have been developed by Lavepak. Traditional lightweight packaging materials such as polystyrene blocks and chips can occupy valuable factory storage space and thus contribute to pushing up the cost of the end-product. The Italian firm's new systems are already being used by lighting, household appliance, computer and glassware firms to ensure the safe delivery of often expensive items. The first system, the APS42, is particularly suitable for irregularly shaped, fragile items and for firms which require a highly flexible packaging capability. The system is able to wrap the item before it is put into its box or crate. Protection and stability are ensured by a continuous series of attached air cushions.
